Senior home safety & aging in place service
The bathroom is where small worries add up: a slippery floor, a tiring shower, a dark walk at night, or getting up from the toilet. Tell us which one is on your mind, and we'll suggest a simple first step.
Why this service
The bathroom is one of the most private, familiar rooms in the house. When the shower starts to feel tiring, or the floor makes you hesitate, you may want a little more support without giving up the room you know.
That's usually one small, specific worry: stepping over the tub edge, standing for a whole shower, the walk down the hall at night. We start there, rather than with a long list of products you may not need. One change is sometimes plenty. If a few things would help, we can do them together.
If you're helping a parent or someone you love, bring them into the conversation. What feels useful to them matters more than what looks sensible from the outside. You can send a photo, share a note from their therapist, or simply describe the part of the routine that worries you.
We handle smaller, practical changes. If the bathroom needs a plumber, a remodeler, or a closer look from a therapist, we'll say so plainly and point you to the right person, so you're not left guessing.

Many everyday changes don’t mean rebuilding the room.
Ask for a single fix, or plan several at once.

Who it helps
You may be asking for yourself, or helping someone you love keep a familiar bathing routine with a little more support.
You find standing, stepping into the bathing area or reaching for a handhold less comfortable than it used to be.
You or a family member would like to address a dim bathroom route or a particular surface concern.
Your parent wants to keep using the bathroom they know. You want to explore seating, bars or lighting with their preferences in mind.
You or someone you love would like support when sitting down or standing up. We can help you explore a suitable toilet safety frame or fixed grab bar.

Common questions
Answers to help you choose a first step and understand the work before you request it.
No. If you know the bathroom is your priority, you can request the package directly. A Whole Home Safety Assessment is useful if several areas worry you.
Bathroom Safety Essentials is $795 for its defined standard scope: two fixed grab bars, a freestanding shower chair, traction treatment and a night light. The package page explains included quantities, suitability and exclusions; other bathroom work receives a separate written quote.
Start with the part of the routine that has become difficult. If standing through a shower is tiring, seating may be the first thing to explore. If the concern is reaching for a handhold while getting in, getting out or using the toilet, a fixed grab bar may be more useful. Some bathrooms benefit from both.
Tell us what happens during that moment, and share any recommendations you already have. When balance or transfers need an individual assessment, an occupational therapist can help choose the support and placement; we review the home and installation requirements.
Look for a support that fits both the toilet area and the person using it. We check the manufacturer’s weight rating, the height and width of the handholds, available floor space and the way the product is secured. A freestanding frame, a toilet-mounted rail and a fixed wall bar each have different fitting requirements.
The biggest or heaviest-looking frame is not automatically the best fit. It should sit securely, leave the walking route clear and be used as its manufacturer intends. If someone needs substantial transfer assistance, ask an occupational therapist about an appropriate setup before choosing the product.
Sometimes, but tile is the finish, not the support. A wall-mounted seat needs sound structure behind the tile and the backing, fixings and installation required by its manufacturer. We need to confirm those conditions before agreeing to install it.
If the wall is weak, damaged or lacks suitable backing, we do not simply add stronger tile anchors and hope they hold. Reinforcement may require a separate wall repair or remodeling job. A properly rated freestanding shower chair can be another option when it fits the space and the person’s needs.
Original Medicare generally does not pay for toilet safety rails, toilet safety frames or raised toilet seats. A prescribed commode chair is a different item and may qualify for coverage when Medicare’s medical-need rules are met.
Some Medicare Advantage plans offer bathroom safety or over-the-counter benefits. Before buying, ask your plan about the exact product, approved suppliers, spending limits and whether assembly or installation is included. A benefit card alone does not mean this work is covered. Our home modification assistance guide explains other ways to explore help with costs.

Often, yes. Suitable grab bars, shower seating, a toilet safety frame, traction or lighting can be added to the room you already have. Plumbing, wall repair or larger building work is a different job; if that is what the room needs, we will tell you who to call.
Plumbing, wall repair, electrical work and larger building jobs are not included. We explain what needs another professional before you decide.
We identify those conditions before proceeding and explain whether the work should be separately quoted or handled by another qualified professional rather than forcing it into a fixed package.
For suitable existing fixtures, a handheld shower head with compatible slide bar starts at $145 and a bathroom-sink easy-turn lever faucet starts at $195. We check the mounting surface, existing plumbing and shut-off valves first. Changes to pipes, valves, hardwired electricity or structural tile work are separate and may need a licensed trade.
